It’s 2:50 a.m., and I just arrived in Myrtle Beach and am listening to the pounding surf from the open window of this room. It’s lulling me to sleep tonight. The agenda for the next three days consists of mini golf, aquariums, running on the beach, and completing lesson plans from the balcony.
I’m playing the role of the touristy grad student well.
What better feeling is there than to know you have your whole life ahead of you with no idea of where it might take you?

Five Things I Will Never Do in Life
5. I will never own a minivan or an ironing board
4. I will never fail to appreciate the beauty of the mountains that I live in, or the earth that I’ve been placed on
3. I will never drive in the left hand lane below the speed limit (if people realized how inconsiderate this is, it would make everyone’s morning commute to work/school/whatever so much easier)
2. I will never quit...

I’ve almost finished the week’s second paper – only one more to go, and then I can collapse into a pile of relief before I pick myself up and start thinking about my master’s thesis (which involves assembling committees & defending my every thought & enduring public humiliation).

I guess this is my Happy Valentine’s...

Two girls, my friends, were assaulted in front of their apartment Friday night/Saturday morning. They were attacked because of their sexuality: a grown man beat these two girls after verbally harassing them.
He broke the bones in Sarabeth’s face. He kicked Erin even after she was bleeding….

It’s not them! That’s us, we’re the ones who are vaulting over the fences and peeking in through people’s windows. We’re the ones who are throwing garbage in the street and lighting fires. We’re the ones who are acting suspicious and paranoid. We’re the lunatics. It’s not them! It’s us.
